Quilted Maple Telecaster

The fundamental idea of this instrument was to produce a Telecaster style guitar of the type that Fender would never make; specifically a mahogany body and a mahogany neck in the style of most Gibson instruments. So, the initial specification for this guitar was that it was to have a mahogany body and a mahogany neck. I then decided to carry it one further step, that is, to have a maple fretboard made of the same quilted maple as was used on the top of the guitar. So, in essence, the instrument became the exact “negative” of a typical Fender instrument. The body has been completely hollowed out for lightness. The pickups are Kinman Broadcasters wired with a special circuit which blends the rhythm pickup with the lead pickup. It is controlled by the secondary knob on top of the tone control. The neck joint is quite special in that it has no heel. Therefore the player does not have to worry about that particular extrusion which exists on all Fender products. The guitar, with its’ jumbo frets, plays extremely well and its’ tone is both mellow and biting. Probably the ultimate Telecaster!
